|
Alexander "AK47" Kostritsyn just won the Aussie Millions 2008 and the $1.65 million first prize! Seidel bet 300,000 from the button, and Kostritsyn made the call. Flop: ![]() ![]() ![]() Kostritsyn checked, Seidel bet 550,000, and Alex "AK47" Kostritsyn moved all-in for more than 11 million - easily covering Seidel. For once Seidel didn't take at least 5 minutes to make up his mind. The call came within seconds. AK47: ![]() ![]() for top pair. Erik Seidel: ![]() ![]() for two overcards and a desperate need to get lucky. Turn: ![]() River: ![]() No help for Seidel who'll take $1 million for his 2nd place. Alexander Kostritsyn takes the title and the $1.65 million first prize. Congratulations - it was the right winner. Alexander played the way best and most aggressive poker the whole tournament, and though he may not be the most outgoing (or even outgoing at all) player here, he most definitely deserved the win. Only real threat at the final table, Michael "Mick the Greek" Chrisanthopoulos ended up in 3rd as the best placed of the 5 Australians on the 7-handed final table. The aussies had only two players from outside the continent to beat to make it the first ever aussie victory in the Aussie Millions. But they'll have to wait another year. ![]() The extatic winner poses. "I am very happy but also very tired," mumbled the not too visibly extatic winner. "Tomorrow when I'm not so tired, I think I'll be more happy." The Kostritsyn - managing a smile or two, lifted the cheque for the $1.65 million first prize over his head and announced: "This is for Russia." Good lad, he'll go far. Kostritsyn then was asked what his win would mean to his career, but the Russian may have misunderstood that one:"I'm going to buy a house." Not wanting to get thrown completely, the official FSN interviewr then asked Kostritsyn if he was going to propose to his girlfriend, Daria, now. Daria has been at the rail for the entire tournament. That one went completely wrong as Kostritsyn didn't understand propose ... but it gives us the chance to publish a picture of Daria. (right) We're all done now, the Editor here is going to collect his winnings from the sidebet we all made on Day3 (The Editor picked "AK47" for the win), and then it's off to the Full Tilt Afterparty to get filthy drunk. It's been a great week here at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, and we'll be back blogging from another poker hot spot very soon. Bye for now! 22:04 Erik Seidel may just have made the call of the tournament ... in the bad way. Om a board of A-8-4-K-7 and a pot of just more than 2 million, AK47 bets 1,75 million and after ages of thinking, Erik Seidel makes the call. AK47 turns over an eight for third pair and says "you got me". But Seidel didn't get anything .. he just mucked ... Erik: 3,450,000 Alex: 12 million 21:57 Erik Seidel just pushed on the turn and got a fold. Erik: 6,945,000 Alex: 8,605,000 21:49 And again Kostritsyn simply turns up the heat straight away. Two more bets and two more call/folds from Seidel. 375,000 to Kostritsyn. 21:46 Back and forth we go. Erik Seidel just took a big pot worth more than 3,800,000. Erik turned top pair Queens and got a 1 million call on the river. Count: Erik: 6,025,000 Alex: 9,525,000 21:37 Another big pot gone to Russia. Seidel called a 800,000 AK47 reraise preflop and then folded to the 950,000 continuation bet on the flop. Seidel is looking bewildered and seriously frustrated. The young and extremely aggressive Russian is just crushing the American veteran now. Erik Seidel: 3,765,000 Alex:11,850,000 21:30 Fear the Big Stack! Alex "AK47" Kostritsyn - back on the big stack - is once again running the table. He's pushing Seidel around again now, and he just reraised Erik out of a huge pot, after Erik Seidel had bet 750,000 on the turn. AK47 reraised it to 1,95 and Seidel folded. Kostritsyn is really looking unstoppable. 21:27 Once again Mike "The Mouth" Matusow has managed to sniff out the position of the nearest camera, and he's now actually gotten so close to the final table, he's been able to grab a microphone and is now commenting the action. That guy will do almost anything to get on the air ... but ok, that's his thing. 21:21 Blinds: 40,000/80,000 with an ante of 10,000. 21:17 And the chiplead just swapped after a huge bluff by Kostritsyn. Erik Seidel made it 225,000 to go. AK47 raised it to 800,000. Erik Seidel called. Flop: ![]() ![]() ![]() Alex bets 750,000 and Erik raises it up to 1,9 million. Alex "AK47" thinks for a long time and then reraises to 3,4 million. More than 5 minutes later Erik Seidel finally folds, and Alexander Kostitsyn shows ![]() ![]() for nothing but an inside draw. Alex: 9,6 million Erik: 6,1 million 21:07 Suddenly Erik Seidel is on the move. A few nice pots his way now, and he's building his lead. Seidel has crossed the 9 million mark, and AK47 is close to 6,5 million. 20:53 There's once again a delay because of the TV crew ... now they need to change tapes. But just before this unscheduled break, Erik Seidel for the first time this tournament took the chiplead. Alex makes it 250,000 to go, and Erik calls.' Flop comes ![]() ![]() ![]() Alex bets 325K and again gets a call. Turn: ![]() Both players check and see the river: ![]() Alex "Ak47" checks, Erik Seidel bets 675,000, and Alex makes the call. Seidel show ![]() ![]() for the nut flush, and Alex mucks. New updated chipcount: Seidel: 8,765,000 AK47: 6,935,000 20:45 Updated chipcount: Seidel: 6,800,000 AK47: 8,900,000 20:36 Big pot again, but this time it went to Seidel at the showdown. In a pot of 1,2 million, where Alex had bet every street, Erik called him down all the way, and when Erik Seidel called the river, AK47 simply mucked his hand and said "nice call". Seidel is closing in on his opponent now: Seidel: 6,4 AK47: 9,3 And yes - we are trying to make the name "AK47" stick :) 20:29 And Erik made a stand - finally: Seidel makes it 175,000 from the button, and Kostritsyn raises it up to 825,000. Seidel the moves all-in for an additional 2 million in chips, and after demanding a count, Kostritsyn makes the call. AK47: ![]() ![]() Seidel: ![]() ![]() The pot is worth 5,3 million, and Erik Seidel has his tournament life on the line. Flop: ![]() ![]() ![]() AK47 picked up an up-and-down straight draw, and both players are laughing ... poker's never easy. Turn: ![]() And now Alexander "AK47" Kostritsyn also has a flush draw. 14 outs in total, and Erik has some dodging to do, if he wants to stay alive. River: ![]() Erik Seidel doubles up and is at 5,3 million. AK47 has 10,4 million. 20:25 Most pots keep going Alexander "AK47" Kostritsyn's way. He's just building his lead - Erik Seidel needs to make a stand soon. 20:12 We really get to see a lot of flops here as both players like to see flops. But it's really only going one way here. Erik Seidel may have taken a few minor pots, but when the big pots develope, Kostritsyn takes the lead and aggression is so far enough to push Seidel off every hand. Kostritsyn just once again bet Seidel off a hand and raked another 550,000. Seidel really needs to shift gears here, if he's not to get completely run over. 20:08 Kostritsyn 2 - Seidel 0 in big pots. Alexander Kostritsyn just took down the second big pot played this heads-up, when the two players went all the way to the turn on a board of: ![]() ![]() ![]() Seidel was betting every street - 175K preflop, 250K on flop and 650K on turn, bedore the two players checked the river. Erik showed a pair of sixes, and Alex took the pot with ![]() ![]() Chipcount: Alex Kostritsyn: 12,1 million Erik Seidel: 3,6 million Blinds are 30,000/60,000 with a 10,000 ante. 19:59 Kostritsyn takes the initiative and takes the first big pot after betting Seidel out on the turn. Chipcount: Kostritsyn: 11,3 million Seidel: 4,4 million 19:53 And we're rolling. First hand in the heads-up match is dealt. 19:47 Still no sight of Kostritsyn and Seidel in the TV Room. Apparently there's been some delay with the TV crew setting up. We hope to get going soon. 19:22 Players are returning from a short break, and we are ready for heads-up. Kostritsyn leads Seidel at almost 2:1. Kostritsyn: 9,925,000 Seidel: 5,685,000 19:09 Alexander Kostritsyn just eliminated Michael Chrisanthopoulos in 3rd place. After setting an apparent trap, Chrisanthopoulos call-reraised all-in from the small blind, when Kostritsyn raised from the big blind. Kostritsyn thought about his decision for some time and eventually called. Michael "Mick the Greek" Chrisanthopoulos didn't look happy, and he was in dire straits. Michael Chrisanthopoulos: ![]() ![]() Alexander Kostritsyn: ![]() ![]() Flop did nothing to help "the Greek": ![]() ![]() ![]() Turn: ![]() River: ![]() Kostritsyn fills up on the river, and Michael Chrisanthopoulos is eliminated in 3rd place taking home $700,000. ![]() Michael "Mick the Greek" Chsiranthopoulos is celebrated by his friends and fans after busting out as 3rd in the Aussie Millions 2008. 18:08 Either Alexander Kostritsyn or Erik Seidel have taken down the last 11(!) pots with Michael Chrisanthopoulos obviously still in shock from the 2-outer Seidel pulled earlier to double up and survive. It seems like Chrisanthopoulos is stuck on those trip Tens still, and he's just being decimated now. Players have gone on a break, and the chipcounts are: Alexander Kostritsyn - 7,660,000 Erik Seidel - 6,385,000 Michael Chrisanthopoulos - 1,565,000 Favourite if it turns into a heads-up between Seidel and Kostritsyn? Experience versus aggression ... My money is on aggression! 17:45 Hectic action lately has seen Erik Seidel and Michael Chrisanthopoulos exchange all-in. First Seidel doubled throug Chrisanthopoulos, then it was the other way around, and just now Erik Seidel has once again doubled thourgh Chrisanthopoulos on a genuine miracle. Well - a double suck-out in fact. Seidel moves all-in preflop and gets a call from Chrisanthopoulos in a pot worth 4,725,000. Seidel is hugely ahead with ![]() ![]() against Chrisanthopoulos' ![]() ![]() But the flop is a nasty one for Seidel: ![]() ![]() ![]() and Chrisanthopoulos flops Three of a Kind. Seidel is drawing dead to the remaining two Queens for his tournament life. Turn: !!!!!!!!Seidel spikes a 2-outer and makes the Full House - leaving Chrisanthopoulos just one Ten in the deck as a winning card. River: ![]() and Erik Seidel survives and doubles up to 4,725,000. Chrisanthopoulos is now on the short stack with 2,020,000 in chips. Alexander Kostritsyn is still comfortably in front with 8,750,000. 16:49 Erik Seidel has just doubled through Michael Chrisanthopoulos. Seidel went all in for 1,475,000 to a Christantopoulos-raise of 175,000 and got a call. Erik Seidel: ![]() ![]() Chrisanthopoulos: ![]() ![]() And after the flop, we are two outs from a heads up: ![]() ![]() ![]() The turn comes: ![]() But the miracle river saves Seidel: ![]() He now has 2,990,000 chips while Christanthopoulos now is down to 6,880,000. 16:32 Players have gone on a break with Kostritsyn and Chrisanthopoulos raising and stealing every hand. American veteran and eight time WSOP bracelet winner, Erik Seidel, needs to make a move soon, if he's not to bet run over completely. 16:23 Peter Ling is out in 4th place ($500,000). On a flop of: ![]() ![]() ![]() Chrisanthopoulos bets 350,000, Ling makes it 1,050,000 and Chrisanthopoulos puts Ling all-in and gets a call for a total of 1.6 million. Ling is holding ![]() ![]() and is in big trouble against Chrisanthopoulos' ![]() ![]() A Nine on the turn, and Ling was drawing dead. Peter Ling never really managed to make much of an impact on the finale table. Kostritsyn and Chrisanthopoulos were simply too aggressive. After eliminating Ling, Chrisanthopoulos is back in the chiplead with 8 million chips. Kostritsyn has 6 million, and Seidel is in trouble with just 1.75 million. 16:14 With Marotta gone and four players left - two Australians, an American and a Russian - play slowed down a bit in the all-in departement. Kostritsyn is still pushing people around, and only Michael Chrisanthopoulos seems able to get into the game on the aggressive terms of the Russian. Pot after pot is heading for Russia though, and Kostritsyn has overtaken the chiplead. 15:46 By the 27nd hand of the final table, Alexander Kostritsyn was all-in again. Now he had som many chips, that only chipleader Michael Chrisanthopoulos posed a real threat, but nevertheless his ultra-aggressive style had everyone on their heels. Nino Marotta was the next in line to get run over, when he moved all-in on the flop: ![]() ![]() ![]() Call from Kostritsyn, who was ahead when the money went in for the third time in a row. Kostritsyn: ![]() ![]() Marotta: ![]() ![]() An Ace on the turn and a blank on the river reduced the field to four players and saw the third Australian in a row leave the final table. Nino Marotta wins $400,000 for his fifth place. 15:34 After Mobbs was eliminated, there was aggressive action now with the table's biggest aggressor, Kostritsyn, suddenly with a big stack worth almost 3 million. That combination put the rest of the players under huge pressure, and though Erik Seidel managed to double through Nino Marotta and cripple him completely, when Seidel cracked Marotta's Aces with pocket Fours - spiking a set on the flop - Kostritsyn was the man in charge suddenly. Kostritsyn was pushing people around, taking pots off everyone, and it was only natural, that the 21-year-old Russian would be involved in the next all-in at the table. In a raising war preflop versus Antonio Casale, Kostritsyn and Casale five-bet the pot, before Kostritsyn managed to get Casale all-in. It was fairly obvious we were talking big hands her, so it took most by huge surprise, that Casale woul get involved - and reraise twice preflop - with ![]() ![]() Kostritsyn had exactly what you'd expect: ![]() ![]() When the board came up completely blank, the 3rd in chipcount, 67-year-old Casale. was heading for the rail (with $300,000 for his effort), and Kostritsyn raked the +5 million pot to go to 5,600,000 in chips and almost catch up with chipleader Chrisanthopoulos. 15:23 A little update on how we got down to four players: First Peter Mobbs busted in 7th, winning $225,000. Peter Mobbs made it 75,000 from first position, and it was fodled around to Alexander Kostritsyn in the big blind, who reraised for an additional 275,000. Back to Mobbs, who three-bet it to make it 850,000 to go - and Kostritsyn moved all-in, covering Mobbs. Mobbs called and showed ![]() ![]() but was far behind Kostritsyns ![]() ![]() A Jack on the flop had the local guy suddenly going ahead - only needing to dodge the three remaining Kings, of which one then fell on the turn. No miracle Jack on river, and Mobbs left the table down to six players. 15:13 Due to some technical difficulties we've been unable to get things started before now. And it's been hectic already here at the Crown Casino. The final table is being played in the TV Room, called "The Riverrooom", where only FSN-crewmembers and a few others are admitted. We're not among those. Luckily all the action is transmitted directly to the poker room live, som we're ok. Kommentare (0)
